Help Us Keep the Library Moving

For many people in Boone and Callaway Counties, the Library does not come to them through a building. It comes on four wheels.

Every month, DBRL's Bookmobiles bring books, technology, educational resources, and library services directly to approximately 1,500 adults and children. They visit rural communities, childcare centers, schools, community events, and other locations throughout our service area, making sure that distance is never a barrier to having a library.

But our Bookmobiles are getting old.

Our larger Bookmobile has been serving the community for approximately 25 years, while our smaller Bookmobile is about 16 years old. After years of traveling thousands of miles and serving countless families, both vehicles are reaching the end of their useful lives. Mechanical and electrical problems are becoming increasingly difficult and expensive to address. During the winter of 2025-2026, electrical issues alone forced us to cancel 12 scheduled service stops.

We cannot let an aging vehicle become a barrier to library access.

That's why the Daniel Boone Regional Library Foundation has launched a $1 million campaign to replace both Bookmobiles with new, reliable vehicles. DBRL is committed to investing approximately $500,000 of its own resources toward the project, alongside donations already raised, as we work together to reach the full $1 million needed to replace both Bookmobiles.

A new Bookmobile will mean more than a new vehicle. It will mean a child discovering their next favorite book. A family finding free educational resources. A rural resident accessing technology and digital services. A childcare provider receiving books and literacy resources. A community staying connected to its Library.

It means the Library can continue going where our patrons are.
